Stupas originated in India as monuments housing the relics of revered spiritual teachers. The shape of the stupa may have derived from an ancient practice of placing the body of the deceased in the sitting meditation position and then covering it with soil.

We offer stupas for use as reliquaries on home altars. Each stupa has a small chamber in its base that can hold a lock of hair or some other remembrance of a deceased loved one. A short scripture printed on a small piece of paper can also be placed in the stupa. The chamber is sealed with a plastic disk that is held in place with a rubber O-ring which is easily removed to provide access.

Our stupas are made at North Cascades Buddhist Priory and are available in wood or plastic. Each wood stupa is unique and is priced in accordance with its size and the type of wood from which it is made. We are happy to make wood stupas to custom order on a limited basis.

Plastic stupas are available in two styles. They are gold in color.
